my infant grabs
fistfuls of sunlight
winter morning

gardening
i nip an argument
in the bud

* * *

pickled mango
grandma reveals
another family secret 
 
 
 


windswept pine
i try a new
yoga pose

* * *

double rainbow
a chickadee sings
on my behalf 
 
 
 


monsoon
teaching her myna
a new word

Note: Myna: A kind of bird often kept as a pet, a part of the starling species. They can imitate human speech and other sounds.

failing memory
cobwebs wrap
the bitter cherry

* * *

one for the road
the epitaph on
his gravestone

Newcomer Jahnavi Gogoi is a Canadian writer and poet who started her writing journey in her youth and has been publishing poetry since her teenage years. She made her debut as a writer of children’s fiction in the year 2014 with Macaw Books India, and a second series in 2019, presented by Dar-El-Rateb, Lebanon. In 2021, she published her first full-length collection of poems,
Things I told myself with Griffin Publication, India. Her poems have been published in scores of international journals and magazines, most recently in the 20th-anniversary edition of Muse India, as well as haikuKatha, Sense and Sensibility Haiku Journal, Poetry Pea, and Shadow Pond Journal, amongst others.
