Waiting For The Fortune Tellers

—Poetry by Roberta Beach Jacobson,

CRUSH

Red envelope for me?
I rip
it open
with wild anticipation
love beating in my heart
My excitement quickly fades
when I see who it's from . . .
'your secret admirer'

* * *

DANCING NEAR THE FLAMES

bonfires

of midsummer's eve

we wait

for the fortune tellers

to whisper their secrets

LAYERS

before
he walks out the door
he unfolds Lily
my origami crane

THE POET

nestled

somewhere between

irrelevant

and has-been

OUR LOCAL REPORTER IS A GIRL?

At dusk
she's a passenger
in a barnstormer plane
that helps her fight
her way
through life's turbulence

* * *

YELLOW

summer breeze

caresses the meadow

I lie down

and become a sunflower

for an afternoon
