He set out above the sea
as though to conquer it.
Such was his manner,
but not his intention.
It was the sea air he loved,
and the force with which
his wings cut through
the cool breeze as he flew.
PASSAGE
Swift bird, fly on.
Let your strong wings
carry you to new, unknown places.
I will follow you with trust and love,
a passenger, shielded beneath
those sure, fanned wings.
MY EYES WILL WATCH OVER YOU
When you cannot care for yourself
my eyes will watch over you
like a mother bird protecting her young.
Although we are not young, and
no longer able to fly, I will stand
by you as long as you need me.
I will always remember that you
were there for me with keen, caring eyes,
so that no harm could ever come to me.
That love is one I still feel. It lingers,
and has grown through time together,
and strengthened through our hardships.
SIGHT
Waiting for us to discover,
surrounded by varying degrees of light,
is the miracle we uncover
when we use our gift of sight.
Shapes and depth appear before us.
Colors sing and make us swoon,
softly blending as the chorus
of a sweet, romantic tune.
You may walk away, ignore it,
show disinterest in your eyes,
or come closer and explore it,
showing wonder and surprise.
The choice is yours alone, so make it.
Many others pray they might
have the chance in life to take it.
Revel in your glorious gift of sight.
ALL THINGS
All things in extreme
become, in every aspect,
their converse.
Therefore, I must find
a balance, and love
even the bitter of this
cruel contradiction—Life.
For at its essence
is the sweet.
