Ahhhhh
my second cup of coffee
after a long day of dying
my second cup of coffee
after a long day of dying
Just me
here in the dark
with its thousand sounds of silence
going nowhere
moving fast
here in the dark
with its thousand sounds of silence
going nowhere
moving fast

Yesterday's dogwalk
four deer and a coyote
today one angry skunk
four deer and a coyote
today one angry skunk
There's dog
there's man
there's God
& then of course there's cat
who rules the three
there's man
there's God
& then of course there's cat
who rules the three
The way we treat animals
the earth
and each other
if aliens come
and start farming us for food
I say we deserve it
the earth
and each other
if aliens come
and start farming us for food
I say we deserve it

Wife is younger by two decade seven
The pluses are endless,
the love true
but two darks brew
I'm older sooner sicker frail finder
hence death is due to brew reminder
and she wonders how I can just sit and
silent toke
and stare out window betting traffic color light
while she stresses struss of work
of life of love of irk
and I tell her truth
I did my stressin' struttin' fretful fussin'
in those 27 years of older
got most of it over
and done
now sitting willing in waiting sun
and her use

My older wiser mutant advice—
be nice, love, listen, have patience,
don't pay too much attention to what the
brains say,
be your own authority,
laugh as often as possible,
never trust power,
cherish spouse, family, friends, cat,
and smoke a lot of grass.
