Every Poem

—Poetry by Joyce Odam, Sacramento, CA
—Photos by Caschwa, Sacramento, CA

Quartet of words,

Arguments and pleas—squabbles and
pronouncements—all we use
to entreat and tease—lawyers of opinions,
ministers of threats and coercions.

Poets of inabilities—users of dictionaries
and grammar—ever at the ready
for the brilliance of thought—
our thinking and our questioning

—letting words come to us—
we claim them, compose
stanzas with lines, rhyme at random.
Thrice we fail

until we reach fourth, another conception.
Every poem is a miracle,
 captured and named.

Original.
