Lighting the Dark

A POET’S LIFE

Pinpoint future life
Upon the Earth,
Put it in parentheses,
Embroider it in boundaries,

Floral patterns,
Highlights
And ascendants,

And slip yourself inside,
Knowing that
Will be your life,
Until it’s over.

Overwrite your history
On slips of papers
Sewn in tomes,

Only to be found
By your sister
After you pass on,

In a trunk,
At foot of bed,
Betraying secret life

In early, pre-dawn hours,
That you led,
Pushing ink
Into light,
In the dark.

—Medusa, thanking Joseph Nolan for today’s fine poem, and wishing happy holidays to all the SnakePals like him who hang out in Medusa’s Kitchen, both now and in the future. Keep “pushing ink into light”, as Joe says; don’t let this world stay dark!
