We Are All The Same

the sacramento valley    1am
still in my reading chair with thich nhat hanh
setting down the book
i breathe in    a deep and slow inhale
and i pull something of the valley into my body
breathing out a long and slow exhale
something of me leaves my body
and flows out into the valley
this valley is my home
everyday
my footprints are in this soil
at night
my rest is under this darkness

this valley
so long    flat    and wide
is graced by the sacramento river
cold and quick
air that is like your first breath
air that holds your most private moments
the earth here is as rich a vanderbilt
or a kennedy
the crops are diamonds in the rough
and the air and the soil grace each other
the way that an angel might grace a child

perhaps you can understand
like an animal
i have no use for time
death comes to us all
why worry
this day I am alive
my fur is thick
and my paws are silent
against the forest floor

i will die one day as we all must
don’t weep too much for me
life is everything and nothing
all at the same time
a life is but a moment
just the blink of an eye
don’t weep too much for me
i lived and loved
i gained and lost
i will die one day as we all must
don’t weep too much for me
don’t weep too much for me

we are all the same
we are all the same
laws can’t keep us apart
borders are nothing
we are all the same
walls will not separate us
it is love that unites us
it is a hope in each of us
we are all the same
we breathe    we love   we dream
we are all the same
laws can’t keep us apart
we will rise up together
helping each other up
we are all the same
we are all the same

Today’s LittleNip:

those many times
when i cannot fill this emptiness in my heart
i suck the light right out of the sun
sunlight in my heart and in my mind
so warm
and in that way the emptiness doesn’t own me
for a short while

Thank you, James Lee Jobe, for reminding us, in these troubled times, that we are all the same. James is having some health problems right now (leg ulcers), so think about him.
