Secret Music

 —Poetry and Photos by
Dennis Andrew S. Aguinaldo,
Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines

on a string
day turns
to secret music

worms toil
blind
to their fruit

as above
so on the sheen
of wet ground

daughter clears her throat
of night and pollen
the piano plays

wife, the sun
lights you up
a favor to itself

no initials on wood
but the grooves of our palms
along the grain

what a leaf hides
for our sake

Find out the reason that commands you to write; see whether it has spread its roots into the very depth of your heart; confess to yourself you would have to die if you were forbidden to write.
