Call Everything Love

—Poetry by James Lee Jobe, Davis, CA

The sun gives us love, and we humans call it light, warmth. The earth gives us love, and we humans call it home. And in our best moments, we humans give each other love, and we call that what it is. Let us go now to that place where the sun, the earth, and we humans join together, and there we will begin anew. Love will grow, and we will grow. This time we will call everything love.

As trees grow, they make room for each other. It is a natural kindness. And people? Some leave room for others and some don’t. Friend, how will you choose to grow?

In our hot, dry summer, the people here long for the cool, wet winter. Come winter, the same people will call out for some sunshine. Friends, there is only the present moment; enjoy it for what it is. Tomorrow might not come for you. Or for me.

The whisper of the bones is empty. The whisper of the dirt is empty. On days of solid steel and nights that are riveted into place we answer to whispers. We answer to the truth.

But what is the truth? Did someone ask that? If you cannot see the truth you might as well be blind. If you cannot hear the truth you might as well be deaf.

Whisper to the bones. Say one word: yes. Whisper to the dirt. Say one word: yes.

The truth isn't one thing for you and another for everyone else. Go now. There is nothing more about this than I could ever tell you.

“The past is gone. May I be able to find the strength to live in the present moment, fully.” Looking up, the sky is a color where blue meets silver, like a sleek steel ship on a clear, clean sea.
